When some of the Black Attorneys are challenged for not following a new law, are they being discriminated against? If they can’t understand what is required, what qualifies them to be judges?
Up until today the Houston Chronicle had endorsed every single incumbent. Today they chose a Black lawyer over a Latina Judge that had been in that position since 2016.
Judge Maldonado is the best qualified and is Board Certified in Family Law.
As I researched the judges, I noticed that Black attorneys were targeting non-Black Judges. I had refrained from writing about what I noticed. I am sure others have seen the correlation of whom they were targeting.
If all one group has to do is have a press conference and holler about how they are being targeted for the Chronicle to start recommending less qualified persons. Then, the Chronicle should stop endorsing and stick to trying to write about sports. The Houston Chronicle even suggested that may be happening in an article today.
Now, a state law, H.B. 2384, which took effect in September and had nearly unanimous bipartisan support, is being used to question the qualifications of three Black women running for Harris County judicial positions in the March primary. In each instance, a white, male incumbent judge has tried using the new law to remove a Democratic primary challenger from the ballot.
Black Judges hold half of all the judge positions in Harris County and they want more.

What’s going on in Harris County, Texas these days?Now you have Judge Erica Hughes going public with claims that the Harris County Democratic Party Chairman, Mike Doyle, and the presiding judge for the 151st Civil District Court may be conspiring together to keep her off the upcoming Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party ballot in the race for the 151st Civil District Court.“They’ve sealed the record,” proclaimed Judge Hughes, referring to the shenanigans that happened in the 133rd Civil District Court, where Judge Jaclanel Mcfarland was serving as the ancillary judge on “New Year’s Day” when Hughes and her lawyer (Lloyd Kelley), were allegedly not given a chance to participate in the proceedings.
