Why am I not surprised that it would be a target of the Trump Party?
With nationwide abortion access off the table thanks to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Republican Party is setting its sights on a new civil rights target: recriminalizing gay marriage.
The sentiment is apparently popular enough amongst those on the right that Michigan state Representative Josh Schriver unwarily shared his opinion on the topic Monday, writing in a late morning post that he believed that same-sex unions should be made “illegal again.”
“This is not remotely controversial, nor extreme,” Schriver posted on X.
Gay marriage was effectively legalized in 2015, when the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that keeping marriage licenses from same-sex couples was discriminatory. The decision mandated all states to issue licenses to gay and lesbian couples, and required them to recognize marriages performed in other jurisdictions, as well.
The quote below suggests why the Republicans will target the Gay community; they believe the constant bombardment of movies and TV with Gay scenes is telling young people that being Gay or Bi-sexual is fine. I won’t judge, as God did not give me that role to play, but many others believe that their God ordains such people as abominations.
New data estimates the greatest number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender U.S. adults live in the South, confirming findings from recent years.
Across the country, researchers estimate more than 5% of U.S. adults are LGBTQ+, matching prior LGBTQ+ population data. Young people ages 18-24 are much more likely to identify as LGBTQ+, according to the report from the Williams Institute at the University of California Los Angeles.
The report, based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, found that in 2020 and 2021, there were nearly 14 million LGBTQ+ adults in the U.S. − with some states having noticeably higher percentages of gay and queer residents than others.
The data below is dated, but it would surprise me if the number has increased significantly.
U.S. adults: Do you, personally, identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender? (by state, 2015-2016)

As Democratic-leaning, we are screwed for doing the right thing in protecting the weakest among us. It is up to those million-dollar pundits to come up with a solution because it seems that, thus far, they have failed.
