After Trump got elected and sworn in, I intentionally started spending less. I guess you could say that I want to tank the economy. I don’t want to think that I somehow made Trump and his fascist cultist time in office easier. I am not alone in my endeavor.
- 31% of Americans reported having no interest in supporting the economy this year – a sentiment especially felt by younger (gen Z: 37%), Black (41% v white: 28%), and Democratic consumers (35% v 29% of independents and 28% of Republicans).
- A quarter (24%) of respondents have even stopped shopping at their favorite stores because of their politics (Black: 35%, gen Z: 32%, Democratic: 31%).
It’s a sign that consumers with liberal views are starting to use their wallets in response to politics in the private sector.
What makes me slightly different from others is that I keep doing what I started. Recently, my siblings were talking about a movie that J Lo stars in. I told them that I was boycotting J Lo. When they asked me why, I could not tell them because I had forgotten why I started.
I don’t think of myself as having liberal views, just strong views against fascism and what this country used to be like for people like me.
In the eighties (1980s), I started boycotting sports, and to this day, I don’t watch sports, with the exception of an occasional boxing event.
In the 1970s, I got pissed off with cable, and to this day, I have not had cable in my house.
So join fellow Americans and make the fascists live and support the world they are creating. We should not be helping it in any way possible.
