It is the economy stupid. Knocking on doors.

Democrats have been knocking on doors and are finding out that the economy is at the top of the list of voter concerns. The doors that they have been knocking on here in Texas are about 70% Hispanic. Below is a chart of those concerns.

I’m unsure whether the Democrats running will focus on the economy as an issue. I don’t mean that they actually use the word economy, but rather that they say the cost of electricity, the cost of food, etc. With Democrats, it is hard to tell if they are too bright or too dumb for their own good. I hope that they will not persist with referring to Latinos as Latinx; that word Latinx makes me cringe whenever I see someone refer to us using that term. From what I have read, I am not the only one who strongly dislikes that word.

My knee and arthritis make it difficult for me to walk, so I leave it to the younger people, but I walked hundreds of miles in my younger days, knocking on doors for candidates. I was but a child when I would accompany my father as he walked to knock at doors to convince people to pay for the poll tax, so that they could vote.

I still do my civic duty and am presently the president of our neighborhood civic club. However, if one cares about our country and state, they must wake up and recognize the foul odor emanating from Austin and Washington, D.C. The current situation is detrimental to working men and women in America, including the Gabachos. As a reader of history, they walked those picket lines and made sacrifices that improved the lives of all Americans, but primarily the Gabachos. But the rising water lifts all boats; keep that in mind.

I often tell people that I have my popcorn and am sitting and watching as this great country of ours is being destroyed by the likes of Trump and his minions. I am old enough that if it does happen, it will be close to when I meet my maker, and I take solace in that.

Volunteers are starting to show up to knock on doors. The chart below is indicative of that.

Everyone who cares for this country, their family, and themselves must contribute in any way they can to ensure that the destructive path our nation and state are on is halted and that the ship is turned around to continue as the leader of the free world.

UPDATE

Support for Donald Trump among Latino voters is falling, but Democrats aren’t benefiting from the shift. New polling shows a growing number of Latino voters feel politically disillusioned with both parties and increasingly undecided heading into the 2026 midterms.

Pew Research Center’s latest survey shows Trump’s approval rating among Latino voters has dropped to 27 percent, returning to levels last seen during his first campaign. Republican strategist Mike Madrid, who has studied Latino voting patterns for decades, said Republicans are making a serious miscalculation by assuming the 2024 gains will hold

“They’re treating 2024 like a permanent shift,” Madrid told Newsweek. “But Latino support for Trump is already reverting to where it was in 2016.”

Latino voters have traditionally leaned Democratic, but Trump made major inroads in 2024, winning 48 percent of the Hispanic vote—more than any Republican since George W. Bush in 2004. That support now appears wobbly at best.

“Latinos are behaving more like the general electorate,” said Eduardo Gamarra, a political scientist at Florida International University. “The economy is the top issue, and second- and third-generation Hispanics are focusing less on immigration and more on wages, jobs, and cost of living.” Source
