Without political power, people are defenseless and are pawns in the hands of those in power. There was a time in the 1970s when the Mexican-American community in Houston had more political power than it does now. The power that they do have is because the Gay/Black/Progressive power brokers allow them to have it. Most, if not all, of the present Latino leaders are vendidos.
To get elected, they have to kiss the ring of the gay community, as the gay community, working with white progressives, controls most of the areas where Latinos are elected. Even when they don’t control the votes there, they have much more money to put into elections to get their chosen people elected.
District H, also known as The Heights, determines who the council member will be. District I is the same way. For instance, we have three Latinos who are presently on the city council, one of them is gay, Mario Castillo. In District I, former council member Gallegos was gay. We have a gay Hispanic female running for at-large 4. She is the best financed and is supported by the gay community. It is not unusual to have more gay people in the city council than Latino people.
Alejandra Salinas has announced that she is running for the at-large seat. The fact that she is gay does not bother me; the fact that she makes being gay one of the top issues is disturbing to me.
As president of the College Democrats of America, Alejandra courageously came out as an LGBTQ Latina on national television during the 2012 Democratic National Convention – to inspire LGBTQ youth to find their own voices.
I am not sure how important it is for young gay people to find their voices. Still, I doubt that it is greater than the voices of many poor Latinos who have been relegated to some of the lowest-paying jobs, where they have no chance or very little chance to become prosperous in a country that values money above almost everything else.
Alejando Salinas has a very good chance of winning because in such a low turnout election, the gay/white progressive community does come out and vote.
The immigrant community is under attack by a racist administration, and I have not heard a single Latino voice. Why? I believe that the sheriff’s department, led by Ed Gonzalez, is already working with ICE in holding prisoners for them.
Tom Homan, President Trump’s border czar, He credited local cooperation in certain states with smoother operations: “We don’t have that problem in Texas and Florida, where all the sheriffs are working with us and actually holding people for us and letting us know when someone’s being released.”
We are aware that the Houston Police Department is collaborating with ICE.
The Houston Police Department has recently updated its policy to require officers to contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if they came across individuals in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database who have deportation orders. This change follows the addition of 700,000 individuals with deportation orders to the NCIC, a national system used by law enforcement to track warrants, stolen property, and other criminal records. As a result, local police officers now have access to information on individuals with administrative deportation warrants, which was previously unavailable to them. This new policy mandates that when officers encounter a “hit” in the system, they must reach out to ICE to consult on how to proceed, with the possibility of waiting at the scene until ICE agents arrive.
When the media and the black community were attacking three Latino HISD Trustees, not a single Latino elected official came to their defense.
State investigators launched the probe in January to see if Houston school board members violated the Texas Open Meetings Act when they abruptly fired the district’s superintendent last fall. They later expanded the investigation to examine the district’s business practices in procurement and notified the board they had to suspend its superintendent search because of that.
They found that not a single Latino was involved in corruption; they did find several of the Black administrators and Trustees involved. There were no violations of the Open Meeting law.
Whenever a strong Latino or Latina rises who speaks for the community, the media, the gay community, and often the Black community go after them for daring to stand up for Latinos.

Gay/Black/Progressives have robbed the Latinos of power, thus leaving them defenseless.
