I was sunburned after a two-week vacation in Cancun, driving my very expensive car. At the same time, being of American descent (I happen to have Mestizo features), I got pulled over for “failing to use a turn signal while changing lanes on a freeway.” While there was no Trump around to ask for my papers, that is what happens when you are stopped by the police today. The only difference now is that if you are not here legally, you would not be sent to jail for that. Now, with the Sheriff of Harris County and the Mayor of Houston, it could mean a one-way ticket to some prison in Africa or some other country willing to take American money to jail those here illegally.
All those recent immigrants who were bragging about how easy it is are now finding out that it has not always been that way for many of us. We didn’t have those opportunities that even people here illegally have. There were no college loans, no scholarships, and no encouragement for us to do better. As my counselor told me, don’t waste your time going to college; you can’t find a job as a “Mexican.”
As soon as Trump won, I ordered birth certificates for everyone in my family who lives with me. Order two copies, one to keep in the vehicle and the other at home.
I have no intent to travel out of the country, but may renew my passport so that I can carry that wallet-size passport with me, in case I happen to get stopped by one of those really dumb gabacho migra who also happens to be racist.
First person the FBI grabbed and yelled We got him, He happened to be an American whose ancestors are Arab, so that dark skinned Arab-American Kirk lover was immediately the FBI’s person of interest. They had to retract the we got him, but then Trump and his loonies have gotten rid of some of the best FBI agents. Maybe they should question Patel; he has those features.
I mentioned that I bought a ton of popcorn and am watching our country repeat its history.
