Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and criminal justice professor at Penn State Lehigh Valley, has been following the surge in bodies recovered in the city.
Police are responsible for investigating each case separately, he said, whether or not there’s a serial killer on the loose. And regardless, there’s clearly more going on than deaths among the homeless, as the mayor had suggested.
“It may be a domestic issue, it also could be a suicide, but the homeless people have nothing to do with it,” Giacalone said. “So it was a reckless statement at best.”
“Maybe somebody from that bar that night heard or saw something that they would like to come forward with now,” Giacalone said. “Undetermined means kick back to the investigators for more information so that the medical examiner can make a better informed decision. You treat it like a homicide until proven otherwise.”
John Whitmire does not cease to amaze me with his lies, or if you prefer, gaslighting. The following is from the homeless shelter he plans to place near a primarily Hispanic community.
Mayor John Whitmire and other Houston officials on Monday showed up in force at the site of a planned $16 million center for the area’s unsheltered community to garner support for its creation and to attempt to dispel misconceptions.
“I would never do anything that would harm this community,” Whitmire said. “We’re going to improve your community. We have a commitment to do that. I want to be held accountable.”
Mayor Whitmire, if it will improve the community of those folks, why not put it adjacent to your residence? If nothing else, you have 24-hour protection from the police officers who are there to protect you and you only.
As to the Council Member who represents that district, I am at a loss as to whom he thinks he representsA? The homeless, or maybe John Whitmire? Joaquin Martinez certainly does not represent the constituents of District I, which he represents.
