We don’t need to go to China or Russia to see our citizens and residents threatened and treated the way they are currently being treated. Fort Bliss currently houses the largest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in the United States, known as the ERO El Paso Camp East Montana.
Fort Bliss has a history of use as a detention site, including housing Japanese, German, and Italian internees during World War II, and later holding unaccompanied migrant children under both the Trump and Biden administrations.
(Washington, DC) – Human rights groups today urged US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to end immigration detention at Camp East Montana, a massive tent camp at the Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, Texas. In their letter, advocates summarized accounts of horrific conditions, including beatings and sexual abuse by officers against detained immigrants, beatings and coercive threats to compel deportation to third countries, medical neglect, hunger and insufficient food, and denial of meaningful access to counsel, among other rights violations. The letter comes just weeks after Representative Veronica Escobar warned that people detained at Fort Bliss were given foul-tasting drinking water, rotten food, and inadequate health care.

I have seen a lot in my lifetime, but what I saw was disgusting: our government employees acting in such a lawless manner. Jorge, the owner of the house that is first shown in the video, had actually been taken by ICE about a week earlier, but was released as he had not done anything. ICE came back to his house and then, after it was all done, called him to tell him, “Did you see what we did to your house.
