After several weeks of thinking about who would be the best candidate for the precinct and civic club I represent, I decided that Ms. Simmons would be the best candidate.
Before Sherry Thierry became our state representative, Senator Boris Miles was our state representative. Senator Miles almost always had someone from his office at our civic club meetings. Ms. Thierry never contacted us. I am the president of the civic club and have been the president for almost as long as she has been in office. I am also the precinct 425 chair.
The competition may be there this year because I have had more contacts from Ms. Thierry than in the previous seven (7) years. She showed up at a neighborhood park that had been renovated thanks to Mayor Turner, Council Member Pollard, and the Park Board. She had no involvement with the improvements to the park that I am aware of.
Commissioner Ellis has contacted us, and we are outside his district. Commissioner Briones has a representative who attends our meetings. Council Member Pollard has participated in numerous meetings, and his staff calls me when something may affect our neighborhood.
