311 wait time – 9.40 minutes/seconds

Houston, we have a problem.

I wish I could be writing what a good day it is. Instead, our water was shut off and has been off for over two hours. I called 311 to see if I could get a timeline for when we could expect water back. Unfortunately, they could not provide such information. It used to be that before they turned off the water, they would notify homes, but they do not anymore. If they had an intelligent person hired by Whitmire, they could devise a method to inform us ahead of time via text or email. But I don’t think Whitmire can think in that manner.

If I want updates, I have to keep calling 311.

This is the second time the water was shut off for hours within two months.

So, for at least the next three years, we have to hope that the service we receive does not get worse. I may even try praying, although I reserve my prayers for more important things.

The person who answered the phone was good; I guess with a name like Joyce, I should have expected it.

Importance of Advance Notice:

  • Preparation: Residents need sufficient time to prepare for the water outage, such as storing extra water or adjusting their schedules.

Minimizing Inconvenience: Advance notice helps residents minimize inconvenience and potential problems caused by the water outage.

Public Works director, maybe you can visit Austin, Texas, and check their system.

  • My ATX Water Portal: Residents can sign up for this portal to receive alerts and updates about water service disruptions.
