Terry Virts for Congress, is he promising to term limit himself?

I’m running to represent the Texas 9th Congressional District to:

  • Make healthcare, groceries and housing more affordable
  • End gerrymandering
  • Support organized labor
  • Oppose Trump’s unconstitutional tariffs
  • Promote strong democratic reforms, including supporting term limits, limiting money in politics, and bringing the executive branch back under control
  • Promote a strong border while treating immigrants with dignity and respect.
  • Limit ICE to focusing on criminal activity
  • Support small businesses by reducing overregulation
  • Promote an “all of the above” energy policy
  • Help farmers and ranchers by expanding their markets while decreasing input costs
  • Support a strong public education system

Is it a winnable district for a Democrat? I think so.

VAP is the voting age population, not that they vote; if they are not citizens, they certainly would not be able to vote.

Assuming the Republicans are not stuffing ballots in Liberty County mailboxes, the demographics suggest it is a winnable district for someone like Terry Virts.

Texas Tribune has it as a solid Republican who would have voted for Trump by 20% points over Kamala Harris.

That seat, currently held by Democratic Rep. Al Green, was moved from southern Houston to the eastern parts of Harris County and Liberty County, going from a district that voted for Kamala Harris by 44 percentage points to one that Donald Trump would have carried by 20 points.

There are not that many votes in Liberty County:

Mark P. Jones, Rice University Political Science Fellow:

While Trump won the new TX-9 by 20 points in 2024, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz lost the district by 1% in 2018. Last night’s results suggest that if current trends continue, the 2026 election is likely to look more like 2018 than 2024, which would in theory put TX-9 into play for Houston Democrats.

He is probably one of the people that I will send a little money to, but I have to wait to see who else signs up.
