Pepe Aguilar was born in San Antonio; the last time I checked, it has not seceded from Texas. So why are some people questioning his “Tejano” roots?
First, in the following course, Pepe and his children did it the legal way; his mom gave birth to him while in the United States. His children automatically become US citizens because their daddy is a US citizen. I assume Pepe applied for their citizenship. Nope, he made sure they were born here. So, forgive his ignorant ways, but he could probably buy himself a citizenship anyhow. Well, he is no Tigres del Norte.
I like some of Pepe Aguilar’s songs; the following song caught my attention years ago.
Houston Rodeo doesn’t care what they say; they are booking a performer who will draw crowds. Besides, I think they make too much about what Pepe Aguiar says and may just want to hate cause they can. Pepe Aguilar recently released a song, with all proceeds going to CHIRLA – Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
Aguilar has faced criticism in recent years over public family disputes and comments he made earlier this year about immigration. During a Hollywood Bowl performance in August, Aguilar called on people to “do things legally” in reference to immigration, so that “we can truly be a part of this wonderful country that was founded on laws and will continue to be.” His language drew criticism for drawing a distinction between immigrants with and without legal status, and has resurfaced following the rodeo booking through hundreds of social media comments.
“Pepe Aguilar makes a living out of Latino music, but hasn’t shown support to the immigrant community.”
“With everything goin on y’all choosing Pepe? Out of all the artists who represent us?”
“He and his kids have made insensitive comments on immigration that did not sit well with me and others of Latino community.”
Even people unfamiliar with Aguilar noticed the volume of negative reaction surrounding his booking.
“Baby who is Pepe Aguilar because the hate is real,” one wrote.
Another added, “Idk who Pepe Aguilar is but boyyyy do y’all dislike that dude.”
