ICE eyeing Ohio next, where it is expected to target Haitian immigrants
An estimated 12,000 to 15,000 Haitians live in Springfield, Ohio, a community that President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance targeted during the 2024 campaign, falsely accusing the community of eating cats and dogs.
The Trump administration is eyeing Ohio for immigration enforcement operations that could begin as early as next week, according to four people familiar with the discussions.
The operation is expected to target Haitian immigrants, with temporary protected status for Haiti expiring on Feb. 3, one of the people familiar with the matter told MS NOW. Details on how many federal immigration agents there will be or the makeup of the operation remain unclear.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem terminated temporary protected status for Haiti last year, with an estimated more than 330,000 Haitian immigrants set to lose their protected status on Feb. 3.
I believe that the reason to change from targeting is that Latinos split their vote; in 2024, almost half of them voted for Trump. The Black community votes for Democrats at about a 90% rate, and for Black women, it is even higher at about 97%.
The Election of a Democrat in a district that Trump won by 17% about a year ago sends a big warning sign to the Republicans. While who voted for whom is not yet known, a large number of Hispanics vote in the Texas Senate District.
Not only did a Democrat win the district, but Rehmet won it with 57% of the vote.
A huge backlash to Trump (probably due to economic and ICE-related issues) has propelled a Democrat, Taylor Rehmet (veteran and machinist union leader), into a Texas State Senate seat held by Republicans for the last 48 years.
A KERA news story from January 27 stated that Republicans reportedly dumped $2.5 million into this race, compared to about $550,000 for the Democrat. But this time their money didn’t save them.
In 2022, the Republican incumbent received 60% of the vote.
In 2024, Trump received 58% of the vote, with Harris only receiving 41%.
With 95% of the vote in, the race has been called with Rehmet receiving 57% of the vote.
Democrats need to keep pounding on Greg Abbott and the Republicans on the Gestapo they love so much, who do not believe in the Second Amendment. If you carry a gun, and ICE sees you, that is reason to shoot you in the back. If you don’t speak perfect English, that is a reason for ICE to arrest you. If you work in Construction that is a reason for ICE to arrest you. If you have brown skin, that is a sufficient reason for ICE to arrest you.
