Most of the literature I received from the candidate indicated that corruption (Republican) was the main issue they planned to use against their opponent.

That is the message that Gina Hinojosa has to run against Greg Abbott. When almost all politicians, Democrats and Republicans, take money from big money donors and then vote for their pet projects, people are not going to consider that as a reason to cast a vote against their opponent.
On Facebook, the two following comments may best describe how people feel about the two candidates.
Sonny Sikes
Hey, Abbot, simply abolish the property tax in Texas, and you have no competition
Alberto Ramos
Vote him out of Texas need a new Governor for people in Texas. Greg Abbott is no good
Time for change, as Ramos above indicates, may be a better message. Greg Abbott is running for his fourth term. He has been governor for 12 years. If anything is wrong with Texas, there is only one party and one governor he can point his finger at, and that is himself.
In one of the first mailers he sent, Abbott listed four issues.
- Reduced illegal immigration;
- He is fighting for lower energy bills, lower gasoline prices, and lower grocery costs.
- Republicans lowered taxes in Congress, and Republicans in Texas lowered property taxes.
- Republicans stand for American values, against crime, drugs, and Sharia law.
Republicans in Texas can’t blame the state’s problems on Democrats, since they have controlled all statewide offices since 1995. That is thirty-one (31) years of complete control of state government by the Republicans.
Republicans win by always having bogeymen/women who are there because of Democrats. Illegal immigration, and this year, they introduced another bogeyman, Sharia law. No wonder too many Texans have guns; they have all these evil demons and people that they have to guard and protect themselves against.
The average gun owner in Texas owns between three and five firearms, according to data from Ammo.com. While Texas has the highest total number of registered firearms in the U.S. (over 1 million in 2025), with roughly 45.7% of households owning guns, the typical owner holds a small collection rather than a vast arsenal, commonly favoring handguns.
Assuming the poll is fairly accurate, the governorship and other statewide offices may be within Democrats’ striking distance.
