Chronicle treated her like shite and now wants her to write op-eds for the Chronicle – Lina Hidalgo

Thumbs down: What will County Judge Linda Hidalgo do once she finishes her time in office at the end of this year? Substack author, for one. She made her first big post this week lashing out at her colleagues on Commissioners Court over allegations of “blatant” pay to play and warned that Democrats could lose the county in November. Why post on substack though when you could instead submit op-eds to the Houston Chronicle? Lina, please send us your next one to viewpoints@houstonchronicle.com

For eight years, the Houston Chronicle had Lina Hidalgo right where it wanted her: in public office, where the newspaper could criticize her decisions, question her judgment, and regularly tell Harris County readers what was wrong with Lina Hidalgo.

Then Hidalgo announced she was leaving office and did something terribly inconsiderate.

She started her own Substack.

Now the Chronicle gives her a thumbs down and asks why she would publish there when she could send her opinions to the Chronicle instead.

Let’s see if we understand this correctly.

You spent eight years kicking the woman around, and now that she has something people might actually want to read, you’re wondering why she doesn’t give it to you for free?

That’s not journalism.

That’s the ex-husband asking why his former wife won’t come over and do his laundry.
