This court’s judge did not seek re-election as he was one of the Democrats that Kim Ogg targeted.
Ashley M Guice was appointed to criminal court # 3in February 2022; for some reason, she chose not to run that year. A Republican won that bench in November. Why now and not in 2022? From what I read, she did an excellent job as a Judge during the year she was there.
Based on her appointments, Ms. Guice is very political and has the right connections. However, in my opinion, Mr. Aguirre’s story and experience will make him a better Judge to serve our diverse community.
I am the middle child, and only male, born to Jose and Maria Aguirre in Del Rio, Texas. My mother was a housewife who baby sat, iron clothes, and took on other chores to help in the economics of the home. She was born in Mexico and came to the United States in 1963, when she married my father. My father dropped out of middle school to work and help his family. He was a janitor for the county courthouse in Val Verde County for over 30 years, until he retired. I remember many times during my youth going to help him clean the courthouse after getting out of school, as did my sisters. This is where I first learned about the practice of law–and fell in love with it. I watched lawyers argue for their clients and the judges preside over the trials. Every other weekend, my Dad and I would go and mow the grass of the District Judge and County Court at Law Judge. We had a very humble, but very happy childhood, focused on family, faith, and education. I graduated from Del Rio High School in 1985; third in my class of 514 students. From his website.
