A little bird/Immigration/Morals

I am going to write the story as I remember it. I have a terrible memory of remembering exactly what I heard, but I recall the gist of the story. The story has morals many people follow, whether they know it or not.

One Fall, the birds knew it was time to start flying south for the winter. So they got together and decided what day they would all leave.

When the day came, they all started flying south, but one bird, let us call him Pancho, had decided that he would not fly with them. Why should he? They had plenty of food where they were, and the weather was comfortable.

For several weeks, everything was going great for Pancho, and then suddenly, this Arctic air blew in, and the temperatures started dropping very fast. Pancho began to get very worried as he realized he may not survive. So he started flying south, but it was too late; ice started forming on his wings, and he started falling and crashed into a barn.

As he was lying there on the ground, thinking that he was dying of the cold, a horse happened by and took a dump on top of Pancho. Pancho thought here I am dying, and now I will die covered in shit. But the shit was hot, and it started reviving him. Pancho realized that he was going to survive and started singing with joy. Unfortunately for Pancho, a cat was nearby and heard Pancho singing, so the cat began to investigate where the noise was coming from. He soon found where it was coming from. The cat removed the shit and promptly ate Pancho.

Moral number one is that certain customs usually have a good reason for being customary.

Moral number two: not everyone that shits on you is your enemy.

Moral number three: not everyone that takes shit off of you is your friend.

Moral number four: if you are warm and comfortable, keep your mouth shut.

What made me think about this story was an article that I read in the New York Times as to why Latinos and other minorities are voting for Trump and Republicans. Democrats seem to be warm and comfy with the way Latinos have voted in the past.

Immigration, the undocumented and related issues have been overemphasized by institutional Democratic Latino voices, including consultants and organizations vested in an outdated narrative. Latino voters, meanwhile, are far more focused on basic economic concerns and public safety, issues where Republicans tend to poll better among working-class voters.

The immigration measures that progressive and establishment Latino Democrats favor, while desperately needed and a moral imperative, are a nonstarter for House Republicans and not terribly important to Latino voters. Mr. Biden would be smart to agree to beef up border security, restrict asylum and move on to its economic messaging, precisely the issue Latino voters are telling pollsters they want to hear more of.
