I have received several mailers advocating for Latino candidates. The mailer encourages one to vote for Latinos without suggesting which Latino/Latinas. Latinos indicate both genders when used as I did.
What I need help understanding is why I am getting such a mailer. Both my wife and I vote every time; everything being equal, we usually vote for the Latino. Even if not equal, why not vote for someone who looks like I do? In my wife’s case, they would look white. She, however, almost always will vote for the Latino.
Following the quote below is the backside of the mailer I received this week.
The term was adopted by politicians in the 1970s to identify a population. Latino: The second most widely used term, Latino represents individuals who live in or descend from the Latin American region. While Latina is used to represent women, official U.S. documentation only uses Latino as an ethnic descriptor. Source
From the Houston Chronicle the following:
Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia, who secured 17% of the vote in the 2015 mayoral race, said both Hispanic residents and candidates need more resources. This year, he founded a PAC called Tu Voz that aims to support year-round voter engagement among Hispanics beyond the usual efforts that occur only before an election.
“The community is not monolithic, so getting everybody to turn out isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all-type of approach,” Garcia said. “I don’t anticipate an immediate impact, but it will be a long-term process and ensuring that people understand that it’s important.” Source
I have a question: where do we find those Hispanic Leaders, cause they ain’t in Harris County, except for County Judge Lina Hidalgo.

The fact is that with maybe one or two exceptions, the supposedly Latino Leaders are a click that is more interested in protecting themselves than advocating for Latinos.
Where are the leaders questioning the Chronicle’s endorsement of someone other than a Latina who is better qualified? I am referring to Judge Julia Maldonado. I am waiting to see how the white progressives vote in that election. I know how the Black community is going to vote.
My two cents on the self-identified Latino leaders are that they are followers of certain groups that run the Democratic Party. They are not leaders.
