Cancelled my Chronicle subscribtion, will donate to

Houston Landing, The Texas Observer, Texas Tribune, and Houston Public Media.

Today’s editorial from the Houston Chronicle was the last straw; as much as I want to support local news, I won’t support newspapers that are too cowardly to be truthful. Blaming Biden for what Trump is probably going to do is a chicken shit thing to do.

Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden will justify Trump’s authoritarian impulses | Editorial

We can blame the banks for having cash on hand rather than the robbers who rob banks. The Chronicle is laying the blame for what Trump does on Biden’s feet; that is pure nonsense if not pure stupidity or maybe cowardice. The Chronicle does occasionally have a good story worth reading or even linking to, but locally, Houston Public Media and Houston Landing do as well and sometimes better than the Chronicle. I have two brothers who subscribe to the Chronicle but follow the Astros and the Texans, so the sports section is important to them. I quit being interested in sports in the 1980s, so they are not part of my reading of the Chronicle.

The Editorial Board takes the high road and claims that anyone who disagrees with them is a pessimist.

The pessimists, meanwhile, are waving off our kind of pearl-clutching, claiming that in this post-truth society, where voters have signaled an indifference to integrity and accountability, Biden is simply doing the reasonable thing for his son. A thing Trump wouldn’t have hesitated for a moment to do for his own kids

Goodbye, Chronicle. May you survive as a newspaper, but not with my money.
