Well, he doesn’t use the word “everyone,” but it sure looks like he thinks Houstonians think he has done an excellent job. He forgot to poll me and many of my neighbors, who complained about their water bills and lack of heavy trash collection. 311 is a waste of time. A call to them will result in a number, and maybe days or weeks later, they will tell you that the problem has been resolved when it has not. I have gotten so frustrated that I don’t waste my time reporting water leaks. Let the city find the leak and repair it. I have less confidence now than when he started, and I did not think he would be up to running the city then.
Whitmire said his proudest achievement has been “restoring the people’s confidence in city government.” source
It is a decent article written like most Main Street media, always aiming for a middle that should be more skewed toward the far right side of the middle rather than making the person seem like a normal, sane person. If you are interested in reading the article, here is the link.
Another disappointment has been Leslie Briones; at the rate she is going, she may find that she will lose hundreds of votes next. Her idea of listening sessions is that she speaks and you listen. If you do give them problems, you may or may not get a response, but nothing will be done about it. We received a much better response from the previous commissioner, who was a Republican. As one lifetime Democrat told me, why do we keep voting for them if they don’t do anything to help us?
If Briones keeps it up, she may find herself in the same position as the recent JP Democrat who lost to a Republican. Republicans don’t vote for Democrats; I don’t have to push the button that has her name, and I certainly would encourage you to do likewise.
