Back in 2010 District J was sold to the pendajos as the Hispanic Opportunity District and Latinos have been moving in convinced that they would soon represent the district.
District J is not a Hispanic Opportunity District. Could a Hispanics win, yes if he or she creates a coalition, with either the Blacks, Asians, Republicans, or progressive Democrats. Sandra Rodriguez worked with the progressive Democrats but fell way short of winning the District. She was outspent by Pollard, but in my opinion her money was not well spent.
In 2015, I attempted to work with the Republicans as I was asked to run against Laster. I was dubious about how much support I would receive, but I agreed to run. I spent about $1,500 and sought no contributions. I ran my own campaign and did my own mailers targeting Spanish surnamed households. I think I did fairly well. At the time this District was more Republican. The Republicans did do one mailer to people who voted by mail that included my name.
Mail and Early vote – 2023
There were 4,096 votes cast, of which 720 were by Spanish-surnamed individuals. That is 17.6% of the total votes cast. We have to wait until after the election for the undervotes. Undervotes are persons who vote but not for the candidates of a particular race. Usually, half the people will vote on election day, we will see if that happens this year.
