Constable Precinct 6 what was turnout compared to 2022 and 2020

I chose Precinct 6 as that is most Latino area where there is a contested race. The two people running for constable are Art Aguilar and Silvia Trevino.

In the 2022 primary, there were slightly less than 2,800 votes mail (501) and early (2,288).

In the 2020 primary, there were more than 3.900 votes, mail (837) and early (3,149).

The votes do include the undervotes. Undervotes refer to people who voted that lived in that area but did not vote for either candidate in the primary.

2024 early and mail ballots

There were 2589 early votes cast.

…………. 1,120 of the votes were cast by people with a Spanish surname.

There were 472 mail ballots cast as of March 1, 2024. Some additional Mail ballots will still come in.

………… 217 of the mail ballots were cast by people with a Spanish surname.

I don’t understand people and why they support who they do.

In 2016 the Houston Chronicle wrote the following about Silvia Trevino.

In a statement regarding the allegations, Silvia Trevino said that neither she nor her husband has taken that amount of money to the casino or spent the amount of money alleged.

“To even suggest that we have taken or spent that amount of money is outright preposterous,” Trevino said.

Silvia Trevino added that neither she nor her husband “have ever misused any charity monies.”

During opening arguments in Victor Trevino’s trial, prosecutors told jurors they would see proof that checks and donations made to the charity seemed to go directly to slot machines in a Louisiana casino, “sometimes the next day.”

Victor Trevino soon admitted guilt to the third-degree felony charged against him, and was required to surrender his peace officer’s license.

While Silvia Trevino touts her husband’s 26 years of experience, her website fails to mention his conviction, stating that he “retired” from Precinct 6. Similarly, her website says she “retired” after 8.5 years with Precinct 7, but county records show her record is more complicated.

According to a portion of Silvia Trevino’s personnel file obtained by the Chronicle, Precinct 7 Constable May Walker terminated Silvia Trevino in July 2013 for insubordination and sowing dissension.

“Your rebellious behavior, emotional outbursts of crying and erroneous reporting of the facts, has caused me to become gravely concerned for my safety, as well as the safety of those employees whom you have wrongly accused,” Walker wrote in the termination letter.

Connecting the dots.

Dot 1 – Silvia Trevino added that neither she nor her husband “have ever misused any charity monies.”

Dot 2 – During opening arguments in Victor Trevino’s trial, prosecutors told jurors they would see proof that checks and donations made to the charity seemed to go directly to slot machines in a Louisiana casino, “sometimes the next day.”

That would indicate that Silvia Trevino was not honest with her statement about not misusing charity monies.

2024 – why does the Houston Chronicle keep hoping that repeating the same mistake over and over again will result in a different outcome?

The Chronicle did the story, and despite Trevino not showing up for the interview, they keep endorsing her; why?

Precinct 6 Constable Silvia Treviño is part of a political dynasty in Houston’s East End. She no doubt benefited from name recognition when she won the office — two years after her husband stepped down from it because of a criminal conviction.

Her challenger in the Democratic primary, Art Aguilar, 49, is a former Precinct 6 deputy who has some good ideas and understands the office’s inner workings. But we believe running a multimillion-dollar agency requires more management experience than appears on his résumé.

Treviño, a former Houston police officer, didn’t respond to the editorial board’s invitations to discuss her re-election bid. In the past we’ve criticized her for gaps in her knowledge of the constable’s office and law enforcement issues.

We recommend her this year in hopes that eight years of on-the-job training have alleviated those shortcomings.
