The Chicano Squad a Mexican-American history of Houston;

The Houston Chronicle decided that the story of the Chicano Squad is an example of the Latino History of Houston. Give me a break. Up until a few years ago, those of us here and those who were born here were almost all called “Mexican”-American. Some of us did use the word Chicano.

There is no Latino history of Houston unless that history began less than 30 years ago. There is a history of the Mexican-Americans in Houston. That is true for most of the United States, certainly of Texas and the other parts of the United States, that this country took away from Mexico after the Mexican-American War.

The rewriting of history is alive and well in Houston, courtesy of the Houston Chronicle. Here is the article in the Chronicle. Don’t let the author’s name make you think she is not a Latina, a white Latina, but a Latina who is relatively new to this country and attended one of the Ivy schools.

The Chronicle article may be behind a paywall, but the story is available elsewhere.

The story can also be found here and here, and the most comprehensive one is in Texas Monthly.
