What a difference a hurricane and massive criticism of CenterPoint makes.
Back in 2022, I sent an email to Council Member Pollard’s office regarding the following:
The resident of xxxx Altamont, stated that he has high power lines in the back of his house. When the wind is blowing the tree hits the power line and sparks fly.
He stated that he has called Center Point twice, but that they have not responded.
Is there anything you could do to help?
The Council Member did get Centerpoint to look at the situation. I asked the residents if they had taken care of the problem. He responded that they told him to keep things that could catch on fire away from the bottom where the sparks were occurring.
For years, we had problems with losing power. It happened so often that I had to replace some of the breakers, as they were damaged by the constant surges.
It was so frustrating that I quit contacting CenterPoint, as all it did was frustrate me.
The last time I recall CenterPoint coming and trimming was after Hurricane Ike. That was over 12 years ago, and even then, they did what I considered a substandard job of trimming the trees away from the lines.
This time, they did an excellent job, in my opinion. See the photos below of the workers trimming tree limbs away from the powerlines.
