“I think the reality of it is, some of the policies care more about, say, the homosexual man than they did the black man,” Reginald Robinson said, in discussing Democratic priorities. source
The above is from a quote from an article in the New York Times about what went wrong with the Democrats.
We don’t have to go to New York to find elitism; it is ripe and blooming here in Harris County. An officer with the Democratic Party responded to my comment that Trump got nearly 40% of the votes there. Denver Harbor is one of the most Hispanic neighborhoods in Houston, and they think Trump gave them some money because some received checks signed by Trump in 2020. I would not be surprised if that may be one of the reasons, but it is elitist to believe that is the only reason they voted for the Republicans. The other Republicans did not send them checks signed with their names.
Unfortunately, that pretty much has been the view that the Harris County Democratic Party has had regarding the Hispanic Community for about 40 years.
If they keep the same mentality, it would not surprise me that in 2024, they will lose more Democratic Judges and maybe a County Judge and Commissioner. I want the Democratic Party to maintain control of Harris County and turn it deep blue, but the leadership needs to listen to people who are not as elitist as they are. They should be able to take criticism, evaluate it, and determine if there is at least some truth to it.
They already have one major problem: a very popular governor will be at the top of the Republican ticket. I can’t picture a well-known Democrat stepping up to tackle the giant coming at him or her at full speed.
I can go back to when the Democratic Party Chair locked the doors to the Democratic Party’s headquarters and refused to meet with DREAMERS.
I can remember when a Democratic party official got mad because of something that happened at her property, and she wrote that she was going “wetback” hunting. Nothing was done to her; she continued to serve and work for a Democrat Justice of the Peace.
Maybe it is time to take that stick to the Democratic Party to get its attention. Below is a story my dad would tell us.
One day, a farmer decided to take his products to market. The market was quite a distance away, so he loaded up the mule with as many items as it could carry.
Halfway to market, the mule decided that it was through carrying the load, so it sat down and refused to get up. The farmer attempted all kinds of ways to get the mule to move, all to no avail. The farmer, truly frustrated, sat down and thought he would lose the entire day and not make a profit. After sitting there a while, a neighbor happened to come by. The neighbor asked him why he was so gloomy.
He told his neighbor his story. After he finished, he noticed that the neighbor was looking for a stick. His neighbor found a thick, strong branch, went over it, and hit the mule as hard as he could on the front of the head. The mule immediately got up. His neighbor told him sometimes you need to get their attention first.
