John Whitmire on John Whitmire

Here is a link where John Whitmire claims everything is great all across the city.

He repeats the same thing repeatedly, saying they are studying it and looking for “inefficiencies.” That is great, but how long does a study take? All it seems to tell us is that 40% of supervisors supervise only three or four people. Okay, if that is the case, what has been done about it?

For instance, according to the following chart, the police chief supervises three people and has a chief of staff.

Whitmire has been there a year, and maybe there has been improvement, but I can glance out my window and see trash on the curbs that have been sitting there for over a month. It is the same all over the city. Whitmire promised us that the garbage would be picked up on time. He has not kept his promise.

Whitmire on crime, another promise that, at least in my neighborhood, is not being kept. Below are the stats for crimes reported from the beginning of the year to the end of October. Crime is up in our neighborhood.

Whitmire on sidewalks

So, some areas may be getting sidewalks that are ten feet wide, which a TIRZ is paying for, and Denver Harbor doesn’t have sidewalks. So, is the mayor telling us that Denver Harbor will get sidewalks if they don’t build ten-foot-wide sidewalks? No, he is just bullshitting his way as to why he is not allowing specific projects to proceed.

First, TIRZ money is collected from businesses; getting rid of the TIRZs does not mean the city could raise taxes in those areas or any areas without voter approval. I personally don’t believe we should have TIRZs as an end-around to increasing taxes.

So, Denver Harbor, don’t get your hopes up that John Whitmire will soon be using taxpayer money to build sidewalks in your community.

Whitmire, we ain’t going to raise money.

Maybe not by taxes, but I will bet money that the city is collecting more money from those humungous water bills that are strangling many of the residents of Houston.

A few years ago, my water bill was usually around $80. Now, a monthly water bill of $260 is more common.

I have thrown up my hands in trying to do anything, as the last time I called, they told me that the meter was not correctly read and they would charge me for sending someone.

This is what my meter looks like.

Whitmire and more police Well, From October 2023 to October 2024, we have a grand total of 20 more police officers. Millions of dollars for more police, and we have Twenty, I can’t help but smile at the folly of claiming victory.

After being sworn in, Whitmire’s agenda has been ambitious, vowing to personally recruit additional police officers, end a longstanding labor dispute with firefighters, and address critical infrastructure needs. According to a FOX 26 Houston report, he declared, “I have no patience, no time to waste.”

Mayor, it has been a year. Will you still be singing the same song three years from now?
