Trump Backs down on treatment of Colombians being deported.

Developing story, after talking with each other, Trump agreed to treat the Colombians with dignity. Thus saving Valentine’s Day and us coffee drinkers.

Trump imposes a 25% tariff on goods from Colombia.

A quiet rebellion against President Donald Trump is unfolding in Latin America after he enlisted the military to fly deportees home in handcuffs.

The U.S. military has a checkered history of intervention in Latin America, and Mexico – which has routinely accepted U.S. charter deportation flights – appeared to draw a line on the use of military aircraft.

Colombia and Brazil also condemned the conditions in which deportees were returned, and Colombia suspended deportation flights on Sunday.

Last week, Mexico refused to accept a deportation flight for the first time in decades. The country refused an Airforce C-17 deportation flight on Thursday, a move first reported by NBC News.

The vast majority of roses come from Colombia. Pobre Americanos will have to tell their loves that they love them with carnations.

Eighty percent of the roses come from Colombia. I guess they can always go back to exporting cocaine to all the drug addicts that reside in this country—no import tariffs on that product.

In the 1990s, Colombian drug cartels relied on the cultivation of the coca plant to fuel their cocaine empire and the Colombian government and US were looking for ways to curb drug production.

To offer incentives for alternative crops, the US under the administration of President George HW Bush passed the Andean Trade Preference Act in 1991, which dropped duties on agricultural products like flowers for Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Well, tomorrow, I will take a trip to Costco to get a year’s worth of Colombian coffee. Maybe in a year, someone will knock some sense on the idiot some Americans voted for.

A pound bag of 100% Colombian beans seems sufficient until Trump goes off the deep end again.

It seems that Trump wants to save face and not screw up the relationship that we need in South America. What does Colombia have to say about how they came to an agreement?

Translation of the above statement:

Official Statement President Gustavo Petro provides the presidential plane for the dignified return of compatriots and will lead efforts at the Extraordinary Assembly of CELAC. Bogotá, January 26, 2025. The Government of Colombia confirms its participation in the Extraordinary Assembly of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), scheduled for January 30. This meeting will be an opportunity to address strategic issues for the region, such as cooperation on migration, the protection of human rights, and the strengthening of relations among member countries. In preparation for this summit, discussions have been held with Honduras, the country that currently holds the presidency of CELAC, with the aim of promoting a regional approach to migration challenges and ensuring dignified conditions for the citizens of the region. At the same time, the Government of Colombia, under the leadership of President Gustavo Petro, has arranged for the presidential plane to facilitate the dignified return of compatriots who were scheduled to arrive in the country in the morning hours from deportation flights. This measure reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring dignified conditions. Under no circumstances have Colombians, as patriots and rights-bearing individuals, been or will be banished from Colombian territory. Additionally, the Government has convened a Unified Command Post (PMU) on migration, which will include representatives from the Ombudsman’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidency of the Republic. This space aims to establish and revise protocols that ensure the proper treatment of deported individuals, guaranteeing that procedures respect human rights and the integrity of each person.

Let this be a warning to all countries: the word of the United States has no value.

Earlier in the day, Sergio Guzmán, director of the political consultancy Colombia Risk Analysis, said that the standoff could push Colombia closer to China. He noted that Colombia has expressed interest in joining BRICS — the economic partnership of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa —and China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Amid the diplomatic crisis between Petro and Trump on Sunday, China’s ambassador to Colombia posted on X saying Colombia and China are in the “best moment of our diplomatic relations.”

It would not surprise me that many South American countries started moving toward China, which has always been the best way for small nations to survive, which is by playing one powerful nation against another.
