Rest in Peace, Carnal

My brother Jorge Luis Barrera, passed away yesterday, March 11th. He was the sixth child. There were eight of us and now there are six. We lost our sister Ana Maria a few years back.

Jorge, he preferred George. He was the only one of us who had stayed in Molina his entire life. His house was next to our parents’ house, where we were raised. My younger sister and I were born one year before we moved to Molina, the name of the barrio.

Jorge was a West Oso HISD Board Trustee for numerous years until his health deteriorated. He leaves behind a son, Jorge Jr., who lives with his dad. His daughter Tessa lives in Houston and works for Channel 2.

His family will miss Jorge Luis Barrera. He was a loving, giving person till the end.

Carnal is mainly used as a Spanish slang for something like “bro” or “brother” when referring to your biological brother or someone as close as a brother.

Jorge loved to watch Gunsmoke, he told me that he watched it daily. So Jorge una vez más, one more time.
