John Whitmire has been mayor for nearly one and a half years (474 days), and he still blames other administrations for things that he had control over and failed to do anything about. The latest are non-working fire hydrants.
I wonder when he will stop whining and start doing things, rather than blaming others because he failed even to know there was a problem.
Whitmire – who campaigned and won with a platform of public safety – said Thursday that, “Fire hydrants should be and is our highest priority.”
The mayor on Friday said that previous administrations have not addressed the well documented aging infrastructure of the city which has resulted in the neglect taking a toll on valuable resources.
If the mayor cared about addressing the problems he blames others for, maybe he should get a list from all the department heads of what they consider the most pressing issues that involve lives and property.
The fact that the fire department knows that there are 320 fire hydrants out of service indicates that the fire department knew or should have known about those non-working fire hydrants. The fire department is required to test fire hydrants to ensure they are working properly.
Mayor, you’ve been sitting at that desk in City Hall for 474 days. What have you accomplished? Maybe you need to get Elon Musk over here so he can get you to write an email listing five things you did that week.
Two things I know you did this week are to have a fundraiser and order the police not to enforce the Parking in Yard Ordinance. Tell us how that is making Houston better?
Mayor, quit blaming others. If you’re capable, get to doing what you promised Houstonians: make Houston better.
