Prior to the rate increases approved in 2021, the city had not adjusted water rates since 2010, despite inflation.

Since 2021, the average water bill has increased by 222%. Two billion dollars to help fix the problems—well, the problems have gotten worse—so the city is paying almost a million dollars to a consulting firm to determine how much to increase the rates again.
I would love to see how much the city spends on consultants, studies, and other professional services, which don’t go to the lowest bidder but rather to those who may have contributed the most to either the mayor or the council members.
Don’t be surprised that, after the study, an average family may be paying $500 a month in water bills. Because if it is based on inflation, we just went through some high-inflation years. Inflation has nothing to do with the cost of water to the city, and by the number of problems with the water lines, we know that the city is not spending that money fixing those problems.
For too many politicians, spending other people’s money comes very easily.
