The thing that baffles me is that the media is bashing Hidalgo, while Republicans, especially 47, are given a free ride on all those trips paid for by the taxpayers. Houston elected officials even get a certain amount for travel to other countries; no one has ever made a big deal about that.

Hidalgo could ask the Greater Houston Partnership, which invited her to pay those expenses, but then she would be accused of taking a bribe. I am assuming that would be the line of attack by the MAGAs and the media.

• Unclear Purpose of Travel: In 2023, an investigation revealed that Paxton took numerous international trips, including to the Caribbean and Europe, costing taxpayers $91,000 for security, with the purpose of these trips unclear.
• World Cup Trip: Paxton’s attendance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar also raised questions, though it’s unclear who funded that specific trip

Traveling to other countries is not a big deal, never has been, unless you happen to be a female and a Latina, because MAGAs hate minorities and women. The media is not far behind the MAGAs in their hate for Latinas and other minorities.
