I have been conducting ancestry research recently, after a few-year hiatus. Tonight, I found my fourth Great-Great-Grandparents on my mother’s side in the 1850 census.
My mother told me that we had an uncle who was in WWI. That is something that I am also looking for, trying to see how many wars we have had members fight in. WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq, that I know we had family serve in.
Researching ancestors is a time-consuming process, as it involves reviewing various records and verifying their relationships. Tonight I will stop knowing that my third great-grandmother was in the United States, I found her in the 1850 census—the first census after Texas became a part of the United States.
Her parents’ 4th great-grandparents are also there.
A generation is 25 years, so we are seven generations of Texans; we can’t be more than that, as we are the original Tejanos.
The census says they were born in Mexico; that would be true, but Texas was a part of Mexico when they were born. Our family has been in South Texas since the early 1700s, when it was part of Spain.
