The Harris County Democratic Party will vote on a resolution that would bar Houston Mayor John Whitmire from receiving the party’s endorsement on Dec. 14.
The resolution was advanced this week by the party’s Steering Committee, which voted 17–7 to send it to all Democratic precinct chairs for consideration. The measure was authored by Cameron “Coach Cam” Campbell, a precinct chair and member of the Houston Progressive Caucus, who said he drafted it earlier this year after Whitmire headlined a fundraiser for Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw.
“That was the beginning of it,” Campbell said. “Every penny raised to support a Republican is a penny used to defeat a Democrat. It’s not ideological purity — it’s about what a good Democrat is.”
… The resolution concludes that Whitmire’s “political behavior…undermines the values and mission of the Democratic Party,” and calls for denying him endorsement in all future elections.
Campbell said Whitmire’s relationship with local Democrats soured further after recent revelations about coordination between Houston police and federal immigration authorities. Campbell also said any pushback the resolution received in the party has mostly been from Democrats who feared being on the mayor’s “bad side.”

I have no idea who those Democrats may be who are afraid. I am a Democratic Precinct Chair. Last time I looked, I didn’t receive a penny for having that title. I am sure that title does not give me any more importance, except maybe for politicians who would want to use it for endorsement. I do know some precinct chairs who get paid during campaigns, and they rely on that money to help cover expenses over the year. But why fear being on the mayor’s bad side? What does he do for them?
Some “Democratic” bloggers are unhappy with the Harris County Democratic Party’s decision.
I guess these local Democrats haven’t heard that MAGA Gov. Greg Abbott is going to put a chunk of his $90 million war chest into Harris County. These Democrats are dumbarses and morons for sure. Screwed up priorities. Sad and pitiful.
At least that blogger above lets one know he worked on Whitmire’s campaign and considers him a friend. But the following blogger, I am not sure, as I ran across the name while reading the above-sourced blog.

What the Harris County Democratic Party is doing is useful.
I personally don’t think Whitmire will run again. They may conduct polling to see if he could win again, but if they show it would be a tight race, he will retire and get rich off the contracts businesses secured during his tenure as Senator and Mayor—my two cents on that.
The message it sends is Democrats don’t get too cozy with the MAGA party, or else you could find yourself getting primed and possibly losing, a la Shawn Thierry.
