Not too far into the future, I will be forced to push one of those names. Today, I am leaning toward Crockett. Why?
“What differs, though, and this is what Democratic voters are wrestling with, is which of the two candidates they believe give them the best chance of winning in November 2026 against the Republican nominee,” he said.
Talarico supporters have raised questions about whether Crockett would make a strong statewide candidate and that Talarico may be able to win over more Trump voters. Jones, however, noted that data has not necessarily shown that either candidate would be substantially stronger in a general election and that those questions are more based on a “vibe.”
Talarico has cast himself as the more electable candidate in the race.
“Every Democratic voter who shows up in this primary needs to have one question on their mind, and that is who is best positioned to win in November because if we don’t win, we can’t help people. We can’t fight back against Republican extremism,” he told CBS Texas earlier this month.
Crockett supporters have raised concerns that some questioning her electability may be doing so because she is a Black woman. The congresswoman discussed this with The Washington Post after podcaster Matt Rogers said she would not be able to win.
“I really do think that the host said the quiet part out loud, which basically was: If a white man couldn’t do it, then why would a Black woman even have the audacity to think that she could?” Crockett told the outlet. “We’ve tried, I don’t know however many white men, and they’ve all lost. The only thing we know for sure is that a white man can lose.”
She is right, white men, white women, and Black men have tried and lost, so why not give Crockett a chance to prove she can win? She is like dynamite, a little package with a big bang.
Talarico is too religious, too nice, too ready to pretend that the Republicans are nice people. They are not; they have proved that time and time again. At this point, we need a Churchill, not a Neville Chamberlain.
