In Dallas, the Cinco de Mayo celebrations continue, but they don’t have a mayor or a police department commanded by Donald Trump.

A council for Houston’s League of United Latin American Citizens District on Friday said it has canceled this year’s Cinco de Mayo parade over fears surrounding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the city.
The organization known as LULAC said in a news release that the decision was made by the parade committee with the district’s leaders, “out of an abundance of caution.”
The council in the news release said it was disappointed to cancel this year’s parade, but that “leadership requires making difficult decisions when circumstances demand it.”
“We look forward to bringing the parade back next year under conditions that allow our community to gather freely, safely, and without fear,” it said.
Many of the LULAC leadership here in Houston endorsed and encouraged Latinos to vote for Whitmire, who does not care about the immigrant community or the citizens who look like Mexicans.
Whitmire should not be trusted, as he is, in my opinion, a MAGA through and through.
As President Donald Trump continues his crackdown against immigrants living in the country illegally, Houston Mayor John Whitmire has defended his police department’s cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying his hands are tied by state and federal law.
But at least one major Texas law enforcement agency, the Dallas Police Department, has instructed its officers not to call ICE when they encounter people with noncriminal administrative warrants, according to records obtained by the Houston Chronicle.
Calling HPD to report a crime can result in a person who is undocumented being detained while ICE comes to pick him or her up.
Two more years of Whitmire. Wonder if those Latino leaders will learn anything? Don’t count on it.
