Greg Abbott’s goal is to get all Republicans across the line and win the positions they are running for. He has made it clear.
The Democrats’ goal should be to lower Greg Abbott’s number so that all the MAGAs sink along with him.
It is the latest example of how the Republican governor has cemented himself the leader of the state party as he has amassed a campaign war chest unlike any seen before. In a campaign cycle that is widely expected to be bruising for Republicans, as voters have soured on President Donald Trump’s handling of the economy and war in Iran, Abbott will likely be relied upon more than ever.
“He will be — once again — probably the leading person, if not the sole person, who is focused not just on his own election but the success of the Republican ticket,” said Mark P. Jones, a political scientist at Rice University.
The governor is already setting the tone for the GOP. Abbott faces state Rep. Gina Hinojosa as he seeks a record fourth term in the governor’s mansion. But since March, he has focused his fire on James Talarico, the Democratic U.S. Senate nominee, and rarely, if ever, mentioned his own opponent. The Republican governor has said Talarico “doesn’t share Texas values,” “needs to learn the definition of ‘humanity’” and suggested the Austin Democrat “could win in Minnesota, but not in Texas.”

.
Presently, the only one discussing Greg Abbott is his opponent, which is a mistake on the part of the Democrats. Greg Abbott has been a career politician and, for whatever reason, seems to have maintained an aura of decency. It is just an aura. He has over 100 million in his campaign funds, thanks to the billionaires who contribute to him and are often rewarded with appointed positions or tax breaks that only billionaires who give to Abbott can get.
When we were hit with Uri, the winter storm that had freezing temperatures for days or weeks, who came out ahead monetarily? The companies that contribute to Abbott. People died during that storm, including an elderly woman who resided in the neighborhood where I live.
Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 was the costliest and deadliest natural disaster in modern Texas history. It caused up to ($300) billion in damages, triggered millions of power outages, and claimed the lives of 246 people according to state officials (though excess-mortality studies place the toll much higher).
The Texas Railroad Commission approved state-backed bonds to compensate natural gas companies for price spikes during the storm. This multibillion-dollar utility debt is being repaid by ERCOT ratepayers through small fees added to monthly energy bills over a multi-year period.
If you are not white enough you are not wanted
There is one person on that boat that Abbott is rowing, Bo French, who has stated that hundreds of millions of Americans should be deported, including Native Americans. In essence anyone that is not white could be forced out at the point of a gun if people like Abbott and Bo French get their way.
Democrats, let us start making sure that Greg Abbott does not get people like Bo French, Ken Paxton, and himself elected. The one with the lifeboat is Abbott; he should be on everyone’s radar to sink and turn Texas decent again.
