Massachusetts is a high-immigrant state controlled by Democrats.
Republicans have spent years warning Americans that immigrants are bringing crime.
So, naturally, I decided to follow the numbers.
We divided the states into two groups: states with large immigrant populations and states with very few immigrants. Then we looked at homicide—the violent crime that has one great statistical advantage: dead people are considerably harder to convince not to report the crime.
The result was inconvenient.
The high-immigrant states had a homicide rate of about 4.1 per 100,000 people.
The low-immigrant states: about 7.1.
Oops.
It gets worse.
Most of those low-immigrant states are run by Republicans. Nine of the twelve in our comparison had Republican trifectas, and 21 of their 24 U.S. Senate seats were Republican.
Therefore, using the same sophisticated statistical method politicians use every day, I can now offer this important public-safety advice:
If you want to increase your chances of being murdered, move to a Republican state with very few immigrants.
Preferably one represented by two Republican senators.
But if you don’t like my fright machine, perhaps we should stop using yours.
