Till the Polls Do Us Part
Donald Trump chose Ken Paxton.
He could have stayed with John Cornyn, the familiar, dependable Republican. Instead, Trump endorsed Paxton and helped push him toward the nomination.
Now Trump sounds like a husband explaining why he married someone he doesn’t seem to like very much.
He tells Texans to vote for Paxton, then adds that some people don’t like the way Paxton looks, dresses, talks, or performs on television. He even criticized Paxton’s suit.
It is the political equivalent of a groom standing at the reception saying:
“I love my wife. Beautiful marriage. Very strong marriage. Some people say she’s ugly. I don’t say that. Some people say she dresses terribly. Her television interviews are awful. But I love her. Vote for her.”
Trump picked Paxton.
Now he sounds like a man trying to convince himself he made the right choice.
