The latest account of his beef-import policy describes quite an achievement: ranchers getting less for their cattle while shoppers see little relief at the meat counter. Perhaps the rancher can explain the arrangement to his banker: the cattle are worth less, the expenses are painful, but the man responsible is very confident. Confidence should cover the payment. If it does not, surely a red hat can serve as collateral.
We were promised government runs like a business. Apparently, nobody thought to ask whose business would be sacrificed to demonstrate the president’s talent. The farmers supply the cattle, absorb the losses, and receive the honor of participating in another display of exceptional leadership.
Merit is for the applicants; greatness is whatever Donald says it is.
