HPOU – Houston Police Officers Union – MAGA enforcers

Douglas Griffith, head of the Police Officers Union.

Well, not all of the police officers are MAGAS and Latino haters, but their union is supportive of racists, and almost all their political money goes to Republicans at the State Level. I consider all Republicans to be racists. They would have to have enough fortitude to stand up to the racist leader of their party before I could consider them as not being racist. At one time, I was a Republican precinct chair, but that was a different party from the one we have now. I don’t recognize the party that uses Republican anymore.

The HPOU head certainly does not have much respect for the city council members. Listen to how he talked to them and seemed to dis Abbie Kamin.

I am fairly sure that many crimes are now going on but are not reported, as many in the immigrant community have lost trust in the police department. A former police chief found that when Trump first came in, domestic abuse reports went down:

HOUSTON — For years, she slept with a gun under her pillow, living in fear of a boyfriend who beat her, controlled her life and threatened to kill her and her children. Domenica, who came to this country illegally from Mexico in 1995 and became part of the booming immigrant community in Houston, said her partner was a United States citizen, and often reminded her that she could be deported if she went to the police.

“He told me nobody would help me, because I don’t have papers,” said Domenica, 38, who has a son and daughter with her boyfriend, and asked that her last name not be used in order to protect them. “I was with him like that for a pretty long time. I felt like there was no help for me.”

In August of last year, fearing for the safety of her children, Domenica decided to flee. She never called the police. She said she would rather go into hiding than appear in court and risk being separated from her children, or sent home to Mexico.

“That scene is happening all the time,” Houston’s police chief, Art Acevedo, said in an interview. Though Houston’s immigrant population is one of the fastest-growing in the country, the city last year saw a 16 percent drop in domestic violence reports from the Hispanic community — a decline that the police blame on a tough new immigration enforcement law in Texas and the increasingly hostile political climate across the country surrounding the issue of illegal immigration.

I am sure that the Mayor of Houston will crow like a rooster about how he brought crime down in Houston, when the reality is that people are not reporting crimes, which they would have if they trusted the police.

AI Overview

Unreported crime creates a “dark figure” of unrecorded incidents, leading to inaccurate crime statistics, inadequate police resource allocation, and a false sense of security. It allows offenders to act with impunity, causes victims to miss out on support or justice, and can normalize criminal behavior within communities.

Key Consequences of Unreported Crime:

  • Inaccurate Statistics: Official crime reports become distorted, as they only reflect a fraction of the actual criminal activity (the “tip of the iceberg”).
  • Impunity for Offenders: Perpetrators are not caught or punished, which may encourage them to continue or escalate their criminal behavior.
  • Lack of Support for Victims: Victims do not receive compensation, counseling, or protection, leading to long-term physical, emotional, or financial harm.
  • Misallocated Resources: Police cannot effectively deploy resources, such as patrols, to areas that need them most because they are unaware of the true extent of crime there.
  • Normalization of Crime: When incidents (like harassment or petty theft) are not reported, communities may begin to view them as normal, leading to increased fear and decreased quality of life.
  • Distorted Public Perception: Unreported crime leads to misinformation about which crimes are most prevalent and who is affected, often shielding systemic issues.

Reasons for underreporting include fear of retaliation, lack of trust in police, considering the crime unimportant, or, according to some studies, a belief that police cannot help.
