I know that many people in the gay community have already labeled me as homophobic, that is the first thing that often comes to their mind. Maybe if I cared what people think of me, it would be troubling. But I don’t give a hoot.

I am a self-proclaimed activist for the Mexican-American community. I consider myself an Independent, but started voting straight Democrat after Trump got the Republican nomination. I believe I am currently the Democratic Precinct Chair for the precinct in which I reside. This is because when I submitted a letter stating that I had resigned, it was not acknowledged, or at least it seems that way. Before those years, I was the Republican Precinct Chair.

If one were to go back and read what I have written this past two and half years, one would also find that I am not a fan of illegal immigration. However, when Trump and his KKK goons target Hispanics, they put a target on all of us.

The Gay and black communities have gained significant power in Harris County, primarily at the expense of the Hispanic community. I don’t blame them for that, as that is how one gets to the top in politics. However, it does not mean that at least someone should not stand up and speak for the hidden giant that has been in a deep slumber since the 1970s. It seems that it has become the norm that standing up for people at the bottom when they are Hispanic is frowned upon by the Gay Community and the Black Community. However, there have been voices from the Black community that have stood with the Hispanic Community here in Harris County. Three come to mind: the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Congressman Al Green, and, recently, Council Member Pollard stood up to Mayor Whitmire when Whitmire resorted to racist words to describe the Gulfton Community.

Think of the above, not the LULACs, not the Hispanic elected officials in Harris County, who had the balls to stand up for Hispanic people.

Without the support of the Hispanic voters, I expect that next November, the Harris County Commissioners’ Court will swing back to the Republicans, and it would not be a surprise if they also pick up many more judge positions.

Harris County Democrats, you need to get your shit together.
