Some time back I wrote the following:
Sometimes, I think that the people who run this city look for the Latino with no huevos to push and get elected—strictly an opinion. Source
An article in the Houston Chronicle reminded me that I did not expect Whitmire to make the City more diverse unless he sees diversity as people all having the same shade as his: pink. Well, pink when the sun has spent a short time radiating its light on the lily white skin.
Members of a Latino officer’s union representing around 850 employees say they feel cut out by the Houston’s new police chief and are concerned the new chief is not promoting any Hispanic officers to his top leadership team.
“There have got to be more openings at 1200 Travis (department headquarters) for Hispanic officers,” said Gabriel Garcia, president of the Organization of Spanish-speaking Officers and a 30-year veteran of the department. Source
I did expect the Gabacho’s Police Union to support the white mayor they endorsed. If that white people union were representative of all views, the Latino Officers Union and the Afro-American Police Unions would not have formed.
Griffith said he disagreed with the Spanish-speaking officers union leadership and that the department has made real strides at improving diversity in recent years.
“In leadership roles, we’ve had multiple assistant chiefs that are Hispanic,” Griffith said. “We’ve had multiple Hispanic chiefs.”
So far, Diaz has tapped three employees for high-ranking leadership roles in his administration. They are Executive Chief Thomas Hardin and Executive Assistant Chiefs Keith Seafous and Jessica Anderson, two white employees and a Black officer.
Whitmire lied to the Latino community, but they fell in line and believed his lies. I often state that we seem to have the dumbest of our kind rise to the top. Por Que?
