John Whitmire keeps showing his cards as a bona fide card-carrying MAGA.
More recently, the head of the fire union, his buddy that he agreed with to give the fire fighters everything they wanted and more, declared that he would be running for County Judge as a (MAGA) Republican.
Firefighter-turned-union-leader Patrick “Marty” Lancton appears to have his eyes set on public office, according to a document filed Thursday with the Harris County Clerk’s Office.
The document did not give exact details on what office he sought, but it indicated Lancton had appointed Fred Zeidman to serve as his campaign treasurer for an unspecified election. Lancton’s appointment of a treasurer lends credibility to rumors that have swirled among Houston’s politicos that he was considering a run for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s seat, according to one expert.
“My expectation is he’s running for county judge as a Republican,” said Nancy Sims, a political science lecturer at the University of Houston. ”His treasurer is a well-known Republican donor and very high-profile, which probably indicates that Marty Lancton will have support from other Republican voters.”
Zeidman is a prominent player in the Republican Party and the Houston Jewish community. He sits on the board of directors of the Republican Jewish Coalition, and serves on the national board of directors of the Development Corporation for Israel, which is tasked with securing buyers for the country’s government-issued bonds.
The 79-year-old is also the treasurer for former Republican Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel, according to public records. Although the lion’s share of his work has been for Republican candidates, Zeidman also contributed $5,000 — the maximum amount allowed in city elections — to Houston Mayor John Whitmire’s campaign. Whitmire later appointed Zeidman’s son, Jay Zeidman, to the Houston First Board, which oversees the George R. Brown campus and many other city-owned convention facilities.
Like most MAGA, Whitmire is quickly running Houston into the ground.
Of course, the firefighters would adopt the red of the MAGA tribe.
