Missing Trash Bins
Is it possible for the city to allow homeowners to pick up a trash bin? We have to pick up water collection barrels if we buy them from the city. Why not with trash bins eaten by the garbage trucks? I have seen two trash bins eaten by the green monsters.
“They said, ‘Look, from here on, we’ll get you a trash can as soon as possible, but until then, they’re just going to pick up your bags on the side of the road, and they’ll come as normal,’ and that’s what we expected,'” Price said.
But six weeks after he said a City of Houston garbage truck ate his bin, his wife is seen on video he took pleading with a city worker to take the two bags of trash they left out because they still didn’t have a can.
The video shows the driver driving off without the trash.
Issues with the City of Houston’s Solid Waste Department’s trash and recycling pickup have been ongoing for months.
City records show tens of thousands of people have been reporting delays for their scheduled weekly pickups — something the city has blamed on aging trucks.
Now, 13 Investigates uncovered another widespread issue related to trash, which is people requesting new bins from the city and waiting weeks to get them.
13 Investigates found, as of Tuesday afternoon, there were 4,385 open requests with 311 for people who need a trash bin, which includes replacement bins and new resident bins.
Another 2,328 requests to 311 are open for people who need a recycling bin.
