Should Hispanics keep voting for Democrats in Harris County?
Former Congressman Erica Lee Carter announced Wednesday that she will not be running for Harris County Judge after previously signaling interest in the seat.
Back in July, Carter had stated over social media that she would consider becoming a candidate if current County Judge Lina Hidalgo were to not seek reelection. However, after Hidalgo said in a late Monday interview with ABC 13 that she would not run for another term, Carter announced her withdrawal from the race.
“At this moment, what matters most is that some of us are willing to put aside ambition, fame or the pursuit of power,” Carter said in a press release. “For the greater good of our communities, our values, our party and our democracy. That is what I choose to do.”
Call it a conspiracy theory if you want, but politics is about power, who holds it, and who doesn’t. Here in Harris County, Democrats have the power, and it is usually shared among the white/gay (WG) progressive liberals and the black community.
I believe that the white/gay progressives are gearing up for a political fight as to who controls that county seat. The WG lacks representation in the commissioners court and has recruited former mayor Annise Parker to run for that position. The black community will probably coalesce with Plummer. So that leaves out the Latino community. Will any Latinas or Latinos run for that position? I have no idea, as almost all elected Hispanics are vendidos and owe their position to either the WG community or the Black community. However, if a Latina were to place her name, she would likely have a chance of getting into a run-off. I am saying that person will not have to raise a ton of money, nor even bother raising money, as neither Parker nor Plummer will have enough money to run a county-wide race. Too damn expensive, and they will be competing with the big boys running for US Senate and Governor. That last name will secure a vast majority of the Hispanic vote. Promise to be their voice in the Court, unlike Briones and Garcia, who have their own agenda that benefits themselves.
Lina Hidalgo had the courage and luck to place her name on the ballot when no other Democrat chose to do that, and she had little money, but she managed to beat an incumbent who had millions in his campaign account. El Chisme was that the Democrats had made a deal with Emmett. They forgot to tell Lina, probably thinking she had no chance, they left her alone. But after millions of dollars and constant criticism from the mainstream media, the WG and Black communities figured Lina was vulnerable, so they decided to go after her.
Hispanics have to stand up and not support the Democrats for that county judge position unless Democratic elected officials stand up for the Latino community.
They are already ready to throw us to the wolves, Trump and his cult, so why not show them that, without the support of Hispanics, they will not have any political power?

What about Oscar Gonzales for County Judge? Does he stand a chance? He is a Hispanic candidate. You are pro Latino. Does he not deserve a mention. How are own Raza going to succeed if they can’t get some positive feedback from activist like you.
I heard that name just a week ago, a Hispanic female had contacted me about placing their name for County Judge. They mentioned that they had seen a sign from Oscar Gonzalez. I looked for information but could not find anything.
If only one Hispanic signs up for county judge, I think they have a chance of making a run-off, then it all depends which candidates remains besides the Hispanic. Our community gets hurt because we don’t come back out to vote in the run-offs. But there have been exceptions. Once this election is over I will start looking at the upcoming primary.
