The following is a screenshot of County Judge Hidalgo commenting on Lesley Briones, following the typical MAGA response from Commissioner Lesley Briones.
I am currently a Democratic precinct chair in Briones Commissioner’s district. I have no love for Briones; she has been a disappointment. Stever Radack had been our previous commissioner, although Cagle was there for a couple of years after the redistricting. We had much better constituent service from Steve Radack than from Leslie Briones. I tried hard to like her as commissioner, but the final straw was the listening session, which was advertised as the commissioner listening to our community concerns. I am also the president of the neighborhood civic club.
Those listening sessions meant she talked and talked, and we listened to her talk. We did have the opportunity to write our questions via chat, as well, and they were Zoom meetings. They hand-picked the questions and promised to get back to the rest of us. I’m not sure about other people, but my questions were never answered. I had to find someone who could answer them, and that proved to be quite challenging. With Steve Radack, if I called, not only would I get a call back, but Steve Radack would be the one making the call.
If Briones is the Democrat again next November, she will not be getting my vote, and I will contact everyone in the neighborhood that I know. I know many people here, and I will ask them to withhold their support for her. We are a small neighborhood, but with elections, it’s never known by how many votes one could win or lose.
In spite of no rain in this part of Houston, the bayou here has weeds almost six feet high. We get minimal county service here; one would think that at least they could keep the bayous clean.
The county finally began properly maintaining its properties in our neighborhood after numerous complaints were made to them and the city. There are one or two good points, but the bad far outweigh the good.

Briones’ response to Hidalgo via Briones’ Facebook page
“For months, Harris County Democratic elected officials have endured false accusations, caustic personal insults, and disrespect from Judge Hidalgo. I have taken the high road because of how my parents raised me, my Christian faith, and my desire to stay laser focused on the people’s work. Respect is non-negotiable. Civility must be preserved. Our democracy—and our community—deserve leaders who hold these ideals sacred,” Briones said in her statement.
Other than the vulgarity, that response is what I would expect from Donald Trump.
I have no idea if the redrawn seat was drawn with Briones in mind, but it was redrawn with a Democrat in mind. Briones owes her political career to the appointment that Hidalgo also voted for, with friends like Briones who needs enemies.
Briones tied her horse with the only MAGA in the court. If she thinks MAGAs will vote for her, she is in for a surprise. While I don’t practice law, I do have friends who do, and they did not think much of Briones’s abilities as a judge.
