Both candidates are focusing on infrastructure: They are correct. I have been the president of my neighborhood for nine of the last ten years. Very seldom do people complain about crime, but they are more likely to complain about the heavy trash and garbage not getting picked up and the broken water mains. At one point, we had eight broken water mains in a neighborhood of fewer than 400 homes. It has been two months since our heavy trash was picked up. We have our “Karens,” as one former board director would call them, who were always complaining about everything.
Alejandra Salinas -v- Dwight Boykins
If you click on the links above, it will take you to their websites. Salanias accused Boykins of plagiarizing her priorities. Boykins responded that we used the same AI. That is not very encouraging, given that they are both relying on an AI bot to tell them what to campaign on. I guess I will flip a coin on election day and see who gets my vote and my family’s votes. We have about nine votes here in Houston, and we tend to always vote for the same candidates. We talk about them. My two sons called me to ask who to vote for in the HCC and the at-large races. I told them the HCC candidate who won by about 30% over her Republican opponent. For the at-large, I told them Herrera had no chance, but he is young and did not want to discourage him. It would not make a difference, as there would probably be a runoff between Salinas and Boykins. This time, those nine votes can make a difference as the turnout will be tiny.
I expect Salinas will come out the winner, as Boykin does not have the Congressional 18th getting out the vote. Salinas will get the progressive votes and the gay votes, and they have a history of returning to vote on runoffs when one of their candidates is in the race. Salinas will get the vast majority of Hispanic votes, but Hispanics don’t typically return to vote. Boykins, based on what I have seen on FOX 26, will probably get the majority of Republican votes; he seems to be channeling his campaign in that direction. I don’t think the election will be that close.
