Latinos and Democrats need to learn from the past on what to do about what is happening; don’t be stupid. One does not need polling to figure it out.

Texas likes to brag about how people are swarming to Texas. Like most things that MAGAs state, it is not true. People from other states are not moving here as much as Texas wants us to believe. Immigrants are moving here. Many of those immigrants are finding out that Texas does not have a welcome mat out for them.

That police stop that just happened, did it happen because you did something wrong, or was it because the police agency wanted to check to see if you were an “Illegal?” It is happening now, but thus far Abbott and his fascist comprades have managed to keep it out of the media’s attention. So, as Abbott and his fascist buddies are rounding up 25% of all undocumented persons caught in the United States, the Texas Media and the toothless Democratic politicians stay quiet, as many of them as their MAGA counterparts rely on those large donations that come from the Right.

In four years, Texas may find that it did not gain any congressional representation because all those illegals they catch have family and friends. Come census time, they ain’t going to respond, and they ain’t going to open the doors to strangers telling them information that could get them deported.

New data shows 1 in 4 ICE arrests happened in Texas under Trump’s immigration crackdown

ICE agents are arresting more immigrants on the streets and at routine check-ins than under President Biden. But most of them don’t have criminal convictions despite pledges to pursue “the worst of the worst.” Source

“What is happening in Texas is that there seems to be a system in place that makes it easier to help ICE deport people, compared to other states like California, where there is more resistance,” she said.

… “So as those new officers come on, that is inevitably going to lead to a major increase in arrests, and as detention centers come online, more people will be detained, and so immigration enforcement is going to get more aggressive over the next two years,” said Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow with the American Immigration Council, a group in Washington, D.C., that advocates for immigrants. “I don’t see this as just an initial surge followed by a slowdown. I think the goal of this administration is pedal to the metal at all points.”

… The data shows that even though the Trump administration has mostly depended on local jails to find and arrest undocumented immigrants, ICE agents have also conducted more non-custodial arrests on the streets, in homes and during ICE check-ins. 

People have short memories if they even realized that it happened before. I am not referring to the 1950s or 1930s, when they would round up people who looked Mexican and just put them in cattle cars and send them deep into the interior of Mexico. I am referring to the 1990s, when a person similar to the racist we have as president was governor of California, which was Republican controlled at the time he started his racist campaign to get elected.
