How many times does one have to lie to someone before they lose their trust? In some cases, one is enough when your life and the life of your family depend on what you say.
John Whitmire, you lied to the community, and then lied to it again. Anyone with half a brain would know that those lies have an effect on those people who are here illegally or who have family who may be here illegally. It takes years to build trust; it only takes one time to destroy it. You destroyed that trust Mayor Whitmire, all the begging in the world will not convince people that you are a person worthy of trust.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire acknowledged Saturday that the city is cooperating with federal immigration authorities after denying for months that Houston police would get involved with immigration enforcement.
Whitmire, speaking to a largely friendly audience of about 250 people, lauded Houston’s diversity and the contributions that immigrants bring to the city, but said that other cities were in “turmoil.” He said that some level of cooperation with the Trump administration was necessary to keep Houston from suffering the same fate.
“I’m not going to say that we’re not cooperating with ICE, because that’s frankly not true,” Whitmire said.
Whitmire then shared an anecdote about how an unnamed official recently urged him to try to get Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers out of Houston’s public spaces. The mayor said that he couldn’t do that because the Trump administration would send 500 more officers in response.
Whitmire, however, has been vague about the city’s involvement in immigration enforcement when asked, saying that Houston does not “deal with immigration” but admitting that officers have an obligation to call agencies that issue warrants.
Remember, it takes years to build up trust. Whitemire destroyed that trust in months. The mayor said, ” Trust us now won’t do the trick either. Just keep kissing the MAGAs behinds you are very good at that. Are you going to get Abbott to endorse you, because right now, most of your support may come from MAGAs and the Latino community?

During his time, we are better, Whitmire claims that San Antonio is doing worse because they are actually helping ICE by providing perimeters. John Whitmire will say anything. While San Antonio did do that on two occasions when ICE called them, that is two times in one year.
McManus said that in 2025, SAPD assisted in immigration-related operations only twice, and solely by providing scene or perimeter security at the request of federal agencies. He added that when SAPD takes enforcement action, it is based on criminal warrants, not civil immigration violations.
City staff pointed to to Senate Bill 4, an “anti-sanctuary” state law passed in 2017 which requires that San Antonio cooperate with federal agencies when it comes to enforcement of federal immigration policy; the city is also forbidden from passing policies that interfere with those law enforcement activities.
Houston police are being instructed to call federal immigration authorities if they come across an individual who has deportation orders listed in the national crime database. Source
