James Talarico is not who he says he is.
The House’s return to regular order was boosted by the return of several Democrats who had opted to stay away during the first special session. Democrats like Rep. James Talarico of Round Rock; Joe Moody, Art Fierro and Mary Gonzáles of El Paso; and Eddie Lucio III of Brownsville had boosted the chamber’s numbers after holding out during the first special session.
Jasmine Crockett reminds Texans that during the 2021 quorum break, she stayed in DC, holding the line with her Democratic colleagues, while James Talarico returned to Austin to negotiate with Republicans and help establish quorum. In the first draft of the new Texas House boundaries, Talarico would have been completely drawn out of a seat, but after returning, he negotiated for a new district that included his parents’ home. Talarico was open about using their address to run in 2022 in the newly drawn HD-50.
